Confidential STD Testing and Treatment Services
It’s an unfortunate fact that if you’re sexually active, you’ve likely been exposed to an STD. At Crossroads Care Clinic, we provide confidential STD testing in Terre Haute, Indiana with no insurance required and no judgment—just compassionate care when you need it most.
Why STD Testing Matters for Your Health
Sexual activity puts you at risk not only for unplanned pregnancy, but also for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Regular STD screening helps detect infections early when they’re most treatable.
STD Symptoms
STD symptoms may vary based on the type of disease you have. Generally, you and/or your partner may notice[1]:
- Swelling or itching near the vagina or penis.
- Bumps, sores or warts on or near the vagina, penis, anus, or mouth.
- Foul-smelling vaginal discharge that causes irritation or is a different amount or color than normal.
- Discharge from the penis.
- Vaginal bleeding that’s not your period.
- Pain during urination or frequent urination.
- Pain during sex.
However, you may not experience any obvious symptoms.[2] You should get tested regardless to prevent the infection from spreading.
How Often Should I Get Tested for STDs?
Healthcare experts recommend regular STD testing for anyone who is sexually active. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests[3]:
- Annual testing for sexually active women under 25
- Annual testing for sexually active women over 25 with new or multiple partners
- Early testing for pregnant women (for syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C)
Why You Need to Get Tested for STDs Before Abortion
If you’re facing an unplanned pregnancy and considering abortion, getting tested for STDs beforehand is crucial for several important reasons:
- Prevents complications: Untreated STDs can cause serious complications during abortions.[4]
- Protects future fertility: Some STDs, if left untreated, can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and eventually, infertility.[5]
- Ensures proper treatment: Knowing your STD status allows healthcare providers to give you the most appropriate care.
Don’t Wait. Your Health Matters.
Taking charge of your sexual health isn’t embarrassing—it’s responsible.
Many STDs are completely curable when caught early, and even those that aren’t curable can be effectively managed with proper treatment. The sooner you know your status, the sooner you can take action to protect your health and your future.

Side Effects and Risks of Emergency Contraception
Common side effects of emergency contraception include[11]:
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Cramps or abdominal pain
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Breast tenderness
- Delayed period (up to a week), heavier bleeding during your next period, or bleeding between periods
These side effects are typically mild and temporary. However, seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe lower abdominal pain, which could indicate an ectopic pregnancy.
What to Do When Emergency Contraception Fails
If your period is delayed for more than three to four weeks after taking emergency contraception, you may be pregnant.[12] Don’t panic—you have options and support available.
